CGW are the civil engineering consultant for pavement and hardstand design for the 48,000m² of landside area and land interface including designing all potable water and fire main infrastructure, sewer diversions and stormwater for existing areas and new car parking.

CGW are also the consultants for the geotechnical investigation and terminal pile design for the new 6,000m² terminal building and the new control tower for Airways New Zealand.

The challenges with this project included dealing with liquefaction issues being located right next to an estuary and working with other consultants and contractors to plan the staging and sequencing the construction of the new terminal and carpark while still maintaining an operating airport.

The outcome for the client will be an efficient design that will future-proof a key regional assets to cope with the demands of the rapidly expanding visitor numbers coming to the Nelson area which are set to top 1 million before the completion of this project
