Damien joined CGW in 2014 to manage and grow the Christchurch office. We started with a team of four and at the start of 2018 we will be fourteen strong, with two more in Wanaka and are continuing to grow with the demand for our services.

Damien has management experience in building and leading successful teams and technical experience designing and managing large infrastructure projects, both in NewZealand and overseas. Since 2012 he has been involved with projects resulting from the Canterbury Earthquake Sequence; Building Damage Assessments, Seismic Assessments, Strengthening and Earthquake Insurance Claims including expert witness services.

Damien has a particular interest in High Performance Housing and Modular Construction and is active in both PreFab NZ and the Superhomes movement.

Damien loves the peace and tranquillity of the great outdoors spending free time hunting and trout fishing. He sees capturing the scenes and images to share with others with photography as a natural progression of this passion. Damien also enjoys arranging corporate events around Crusaders, All Blacks or Black Caps games. While visiting well over 50 countries in the world, his favourite place is still Lake Clearwater in the Ashburton Lakes District.

Robert Smith - Senior Geotechnical Engineer



BSc Earth Science, MEngNZ

Robert joined CGW in 2016 and manages the geotechnical team in Christchurch, as well as providing oversight and support to our various CGW geotechnical professionals throughout New Zealand.

Robert has over twelve years of geotechnical experience, which includes undertaking and project managing various small to large residential and commercial developments including subdivisions. Specific foundation designs including piled foundations in liquefiable soils, slope stability analysis and mitigation design of liquefiable soils.

Outside of work, Robert enjoys golf, fishing and travelling.

Domenico (Mimmo) Sclofani - Senior Structural Engineer



ME (Structural & Geotechnical), CPENG, CMENGNZ

Mimmo joined CGW in 2014 when he relocated to New Zealand from Italy where he was working as Structural engineer assessing the seismic performance of buildings and designing multi-storey reinforced concrete frame buildings. In 2017 he applied and obtained his New Zealand Chartered status as Structural Engineer.

Mimmo has key expertise in many areas including; new residential and commercial design, foundation design, retaining walls, modular multi consent design and peer review of structural and geotechnical solutions. Seismic assessment of complex multi-storey buildings and related strengthening plans, commercial EQ damage assessment, and carbon and aramid fibre strengthening. SIP panels, timber, steel and concrete design.

Mimmo enjoys getting into the outdoors tramping, kayaking, travelling and finishing the day with a well-prepared Italian dinner no matter where he is.

Keith Robinson - Senior Structural Engineer

Keith joined CGW in 2018 as a senior structural engineer with both local and overseas experience. After graduating with a BEng (Hons) in Civil & Transportation Engineering from Napier University in Edinburgh he proceeded to travel and work in Ireland, England and Australia finally settling in New Zealand.

Prior to the February 2011 Christchurch Earthquake Keith worked in a small Queenstown based engineering consultancy which volunteered during the Emergency Response. This led into a role within CERA (Government) reviewing seismic assessments and evaluating public building risk. Following this Keith moved back into the private sector working for various engineering consultancies mainly completing insurance related earthquake damage assessments, seismic assessments and designing earthquake repairs/seismic strengthening.

Keith is a keen footballer & coach, beer brewer and runner.

David Whitta - Civil Engineer

David joined CGW in January 2017 and his role is within the team that has been providing assessments and reinstatement methodologies for earthquake damaged residential properties in Canterbury.

David is a professional engineer with over 40 years’ experience in civil engineering including structural engineering of residential and commercial buildings, geotechnical engineering, subdivision engineering. He is an experienced project manager on major international infrastructure projects with extensive knowledge of stakeholder management.

David spent 20 years in Asia, has travelled extensively and enjoys high-end audio and reading. His next resolution is to get out more by walking in the bush of New Zealand.

Jack Farrow - Engineering Geologist



BSc(Hons) Geology, MENGNZ

Jack joined CGW in 2016 and is part of the Geotechnical team in Christchurch. Working under the guidance of the Senior Geotechnical Engineer, Robert Smith, Jack has been involved in a number of projects throughout the South Island including sub-developments, residential new builds, retaining wall designs and more. As the Geotechnical team in the South Island grows, Jack continually develops his knowledge and expertise in New Zealand and is looking forward to achieving a chartered engineering status in the near future.

Jack holds a degree in Geology with honours from a UK University and has over 3 years of work experience. Having moved to New Zealand in early 2016 he looks set to advance his career within the New Zealand market, is now a registered member of IPENZ and has extensive knowledge within the Canterbury region having worked on a multitude of Geotechnical projects. With the wealth of expertise and guidance available at CGW he looks forward to being involved with the company for some of the projects available in the New Year.

Jack enjoys staying active and loves what New Zealand has to offer. He has taken part in surfing, snowboarding, mountain biking, golfing, fishing (although yet to catch a fish) and enjoys his weekly games of 5-a-side football. With the arrival of his newly born nephew he now gives up a lot of his time to baby sit, much to the delight of his sister.

Taylor Koens - Graduate Structural Engineer

Taylor joined the CGW Nelson office in 2016 as a Structural Engineering graduate from Canterbury University. He brings fresh technical skills and through strong mentorship from Senior CGW Engineers, has developed quickly to taking leadership over projects. Taylor has a particular interest in engineered timber structures, and has been fortunate to work with leaders in this industry.

In 2018 Taylor is joining the CGW Christchurch office and beginning to study part-time towards a Masters in Engineering Studies, focussed on Seismic Engineering.

Outside of work Taylor enjoys getting into the outdoors as much as possible, mountaineering, skiing, whitewater kayaking, and mountain biking.

Ryan Clough - Graduate Structural Engineer





Ryan has recently joined CGW after completing his studies at the University of Canterbury. While at University he developed a keen interest in architectural and timber design.

Ryan has experience designing truss and membrane tent structures, residential houses and concert stages.

In his spare time, Ryan likes to get involved in the music scene from production to DJing and when he can get out for a skate, surf or snowboard.

Rebecca Curd - Office Manager Christchurch




Rebecca joined CGW in early 2017 and looks after the day to day job management for the Christchurch office including job project management, implementation of new systems and invoicing. 

Previously Rebecca has been involved in Service Delivery and Project Administration in the IT industry both in Christchurch and in Nelson.

Peter Druce - Graduate Structural Engineer



BE (Civil) Hons

Peter joined CGW in 2017 after graduating from the University of Canterbury with a Bachelors of Engineering with Honours. While at University he developed a strong interest in Structural and Geotechnical Engineering.

He is a member of the House reports team in the Christchurch office, and is involved in inspecting earthquake damaged structures and generating repair strategies. His previous experience was a site engineer for a pump station and substation.

He is an emerging professional member of IPENZ.

Peter enjoys mountain biking and camping in his spare time.
